Installing an Addon
How to install an Addon manually
Most Kodi addons are sourced from the third-parties. Kodi has an internal security setting that doesn’t let you install such addons. You need to change the setting first in order to install your favorite addons on any device. Here are the steps:
This guide take you step by step through installing an addon, if you have a build installed the process is the same but will differ visually.
#1 Open Kodi and then open Settings from the home screen
#2 Now click System settings on Kodi 17.6 or click System on Kodi 18
#3 Next, select Add-ons on the left of the screen
#4 Now, simply enable the option Unknown Sources on the right (if it is disabled or off)
#5 When prompted, click Yes
How to Install Any Addon on Kodi
Any add-on installation is primarily a 3-part process as follows:
- Add Source
- Install Repository
- Install the Add-on
I will cover these 3 parts in the following steps. In this guide, I am taking Exodus Redux addon as an example. But, the process remains the same for all other video addons.
#1 Run Kodi and open Settings
#2 Click File manager
#3 Click Add Source
#4 When you see the following window, click <None>
#5 Enter the source URL in the designated empty field on the top and click OK
Note: you will need the URL of the addon you wish to install, Google is your best friend for this.
For instance, source URL for Exodus Redux addon is https://i-a-c.github.io
#6 Type the name of the source in the field Enter a name for this media source and click OK.
Note: You may choose any name you like. The idea is to make the name identifiable with the source.
For example, I choose redux for the source I have used in this guide as an example
You have successfully added the source. Part 1 is thus complete. We move to the next part now where we install the repository.
#7 Now go back to the Kodi home-screen and click Add-ons
#8 Click the open-box icon on the top-left (also referred to as Package Installer)
#9 Click Install from zip file
#10: Now you need to click the name you chose for the source earlier in Step 6.
It is redux in our example case
#11: On the following screen, you should see the zip file for the repository. We have provided the name of the repository with each addon in our Kodi Addons list so that you know which repository you are looking for. Some sources contain multiple repositories.
Note: You may not find the repository zip file directly when you click the source name. Some repositories are contained inside the folders within the source. Since you know the name of the repository, finding it inside the folders should not be difficult. The zip files usually use the following naming convention: repository.repositoryname-x.x.x.zip
We are using Exodus Redux Repo as an example in this guide. This is how it looks.
#12: Now, wait for the repository installation notification. It appears on the top-right of the window.
You have successfully installed the repository and completed Part 2. We now move to the third and final part where we install the Add-on from the repository.
#13: Click Install from repository
#14: Click the repository you have installed (Exodus Redux Repo in this case)
#15: Click Video add-ons
#16: Next, click the addon you wish to install from the repository (Exodus Redux in this case)
#17: Click Install
Note: In Kodi 18, you will see an additional popup (not shown in the image). Click OK when you do.
Note: In Kodi 18, you will see an additional popup. Click OK when you do.
#18: Wait for the add-on installed notification to appear on the upper-right of the window
That’s it! You have successfully installed the addon of your choice. Now, go ahead and access it from the Kodi Home-screen > Add-ons > Video Add-ons
