What is a VPN

One Alliance Reborn

What is a VPN and do I need one?

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a network technology that creates a secure network connection over a public network such as the Internet or a private network owned by a service provider.

Do I need a VPN for using Kodi? While it is highly recommended to connect to a VPN while using Kodi, it isn’t an absolute requirement for Kodi to function. Beyond the incomparable security benefits that a VPN provides, what a VPN really does is allow Kodi add-ons to shine.

MonsterVPN

There are hundreds of add-ons for Kodi, but due to geographical restrictions, many users are unable to use the add-ons that they download. With a VPN, however, digital borders disappear, making all of the Kodi add-ons accessible from anywhere.

A VPN will also allow you to bypass content being blocked by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). However the blocks imposed by broadband ISPs (e.g. BT, Virgin Media, Sky Broadband, Plusnet, TalkTalk and EE) are only effective when the end-user doesn’t know how to circumvent them by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN)

OneAlliance strongly recommends and also uses MonsterVPN.  This VPN was created from bottom up and will wash away our previous recommendation that now appears to be in decline.  Although a separate entity, OneAlliancereborn developer / Admin Mike Bowyer created a fast working, reliable, and 100% secure VPN service.  MonsterVPN apps available for Android Phones/Tablets, TV Boxes including Firesticks, iOS devices, Windows, Mac, and even a dedicated VPN Add-on for Kodi. (A first I believe).

MonsterVPN – The latest and most advanced VPN available on the market today.  This is a premium product and not to be mistaken with inexpensive unreliable companies. More information available directly from https://monstervpn.tech and their Facebook page. A small price to pay for that peace of mind and better streaming.

Why You Should Stay Away From Free / budget VPN Providers:
It is very enticing to chose a Free/budget VPN over a Paid one. However this is one thing you don’t want to skimp on. The reason being is that you need to be able to trust your VPN Provider. When you use a free or budget service, there is no value in trust between you. Essentially when you pay for a VPN Service you aren’t only buying the underlying network of Servers and their encryption. You are also buying their trust that they will keep all of your information private and safe.

So what is the difference? Why should you pay for something that some offer for free? The big number one reason is you have no way of trusting them. While there are legitimate Free/budget  VPN Providers out there. You could easily be downloading a virus or connecting to a malicious VPN of some sort. Most Free/budget VPN Providers will usually log your Internet Usage. Such as what sites you visit and what you do while you’re on those sites. However there are some that will even sell your personal Information on the black market such as email address, name, telephone number, credit card, etc.. pretty much anything that you do on the Internet is up for grabs.

Another bad quality of these Free/budget VPN Providers is that they will push ad’s onto the sites you visit. While this on it’s own isn’t a terrible thing to most people. The big problem with this is you can’t trust most of the ad’s they push. The reason being is a common trait among free/budget services online is they will use pay per view ad services. These services are the same that Hackers will typically use to push out viruses. So, while the VPN might be protecting you and doing it’s job. The Ad’s that they give you might be harmful to your streaming device. Remember we want a VPN Provider for Privacy and Security means and you simply can’t assure you will have that with a Free/budget Service. While we all like to find free ways of getting stuff. OnceAlliance recommends paying for a VPN Service and highly advise against using a free/budget one. Simply because there is no way of knowing what you will be getting.
